Is PayPal a Pain in your Ass?
by Chris Cary Aug 30, 2008
A few years ago I was trying to buy some classical violin music Online because I had an upcoming gig at my sister's wedding ceremony with my buddy, Tommy Greywolf (former Brooks & Dunn fiddle player) and I needed the violin duet arrangemenets.
I found what I needed and went to pay, only to get a PayPal screen! I did not feel comfortable with these jokers, "PayPal" but that was the only payment option.
I really, really needed the music and I didn't have time to screw around. So I joined PayPal and got my music. When it was all said and done, it wasn't that bad.
Since then, PayPal has made it so you don't even have to have an account with them to process a payment. They give you a choice.
A lot of people actually like using PayPal better because once you have an account with PayPal, you can buy stuff from unfamiliar websites by simply using ONLY your email address; never having to give your credit card number to the website!
Sometimes PayPal seems like a pain in the ass to people and I can tell you why. It's because they have layers and layers of security (just like the airports these days) to PROTECT you from fraud and hackers! PayPal requires loads of verification and although it can seem like a lot of red tape, it's all in the name of keeping your information safe.
There are plenty of scam artists out there trying to impersonate big companies to get your personal information and PayPal has been a victim of this. Just be careful if you get an email from someone saying they're PayPal or any financial institution; don't assume it's legit right away. Look at the "From:" address and if looks goofy, delete the email.
If you want to make a purchase WITHOUT using PayPal, it's easy. Just make sure you don't use a credit card or email address that's already associated with any PayPal account you may have.
If you've recently logged into PayPal, you might get the below screen. If so, they "HIDE" the link for paying WITHOUT using PayPal. Simply click the "continue" link and you can easily proceed without using PayPal as shown below:
